Decide when your New Year resolutions begin

i was listening to a podcast side hustle nation, where the subject came up about implementing your new year resolutions to suit your life.

Traditionally the new year starts January 1st after a busy and stressful holiday season. No, Im not suggesting changing Christmas or new year to a different date just making time for reflection and starting new improvements at different times of the year that suit you, to avoid the distractions and pressures of the traditional holiday time.

for example,

  • Maybe your resolution start time coincides with the beginning of the school year in September when the summer has ended and the kids start back again with school

  • When i worked in the waterpark industry we closed for the season November thru March due to the relatively cold weather in Florida. I started mentally to plan for the next season to avoid previous problems

  • Your financial year may begin in October, so your plan for changes can start then. For much of the Northern hemisphere the weather starts to warm in March which coincides with spring. What better way to get a head start on a summer body

  • Action: Think about and change your start date for better results that are in harmony with your life

Make monthly resolutions, one month at a time.

Focus on 12 changes in single month increments, one at a time.

Choose a theme or single goal for January and focus on that and that only for January. Dont introduce another ‘resolution’ until February.

Track your progress.

Whether its a piece of paper, a spreadsheet or a phone app, tracking and measuring your progress adds a layer of motivation and accountability.

Create a spreadsheet with dates as a heading and your monthly theme as a row. simply put an x if you took action towards the goal alongside the row under the date. then just make sure you dont break the chain of x’s

share the spreadsheet with others for accountability and encouragement
